Strong sedative and stress buster, known as 'all heal' has a long history of medicinal use. Soothing and relaxing. Encourages sleep.
LATIN NAME: Valeriana officinalis and Valeriana wallichii
SOURCE: Steam distilled from the rhizome (mixed roots). Is in Short Supply.
COLOUR: yellow-amber.
ORIGIN: Nepal.
AROMA: pungent, earthy, musky, sweet, spicy and warm.
QUALITIES: Locally known as 'all heal', it has enjoyed a long history of medicinal use. It is a strong oil and works on the central nervous system as a sedative. Very soothing and relaxing, especially during very stressful, difficult times, and where there is any nervous tension. Encourages sleep and restfulness ideal addition to an evening bath. For a more pleasant aroma we recommend that you blend with Chamomile Roman or Mandarin. Over use of this oil over an extended period of time may cause lethargy.
Listed in British Herbal Pharmacoepia as a specific for 'conditions presenting nervous excitability'.
Used extensively by the pharmaceutical industry who remove the active ingredients for use in various drugs such as Valium. The remaining material is often 'dumped' back into the market where it is often bought up by the aromatherapy industry. Scott tested many samples before finding this complete oil. Naturally farmed no pesticides or herbicides used.
Also blends well with Sandalwood, Vetivert, Spikenard, Patchouli, Lavender, Pine, Cedarwood, Mandarin and Petitgrain.
A member of the Valerianaceae family, an erect perennial up to one and a half metres high with dark green leaves and white to deep pink red flowers. It has thick, greyish rhizomes which often show above the ground. Native to Europe and parts of Asia.
