LATIN NAME: Helichrysum gymnocephalum H. Humb.
SOURCE: Steam distilled from sustainable wild flowers, leaves and stems.
COLOUR: Clear.
ORIGIN: Madagascar.
AROMA: unique clean, fresh, cineole notes, slightly spicy, slightly floral and penetrating.
QUALITIES: uplifting, and stimulating. Great for those cold winter months, to treat bacterial infections, and as an addition to a muscle rub massage oil, for aches and pains. Excellent skin care oil and for those suffering from allergies. A few sniffs perk me up.
Traditionally used as a febrifugal : a decoction is made by boiling the leaves in water. The leaves are also powdered and mixed with oil, and used to treat rheumatism and gout.
A member of the Asteraceae Family: known locally as Rambiazina. It is a shrubby tree of 1 to 4m in height, with pubescent boughs; large leaves, the stem is covered with grayish hairs. The hermaphrodite flowers are sulphur-yellow in colour. This endemic species is resistant to drought and fire and is found in abundance in the central highland and the central eastern hills at 800-1000m altitude. The local people carry out the collection of this common plant.
